Evening with Industry 2024
On February 27, 2024, the future Aggie Square was the place to be – a hub of innovation where university, industry, and community intersected to forge limitless opportunities! Our California State University-Sacramento CM students and industry guests were treated to an unforgettable experience as they explored two bustling job sites in a single evening. Brown Construction, Inc. and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company united to host an inspiring Evening with Industry event, set against the backdrop of Aggie Square's dynamic atmosphere. At Brown Construction's site, excitement filled the air with the unveiling of a groundbreaking 6-story Mixed-Use Residential Building. This forward-thinking space will blend student and market-rate residential units, featuring a ground floor adorned with a residential lobby and future commercial spaces. Upstairs, residents will enjoy cozy living quarters alongside study spaces and amenities. Meanwhile, over at the Whiting Turner job site, the energy was palpable. With two expansive buildings totaling over 600,000 square feet, this project embodies collaboration between business partners, community initiatives, and UC Davis' research and innovation sectors. UC Davis will occupy roughly 60% of the space, with private industry embracing the remainder. Highlights include the Lifelong Learning Building, an eight-story hub for offices and classrooms, and LSTE-East (Life Science Technology & Engineering), a seven-story marvel housing cutting-edge research facilities and labs. And let's not overlook the sprawling six-story parking garage, accommodating a whopping 1,534 parking stalls! Of course, the Evening with Industry event would be complete without the delectable BBQ dinner provided by Schetter Electric on their custom BBQ rig – a perfect complement to an evening filled with firsthand experience on job sites, insightful discussions and networking opportunities. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the success of this event. Stay tuned for more updates and future events from SCMEF - Sacramento Construction Management Education Foundation as we continue to champion the CSUS CM Program and foster collaboration within the construction industry and beyond!

Evening w/ Industry & Fall Welcome
On November 14, 2022 SCMEF’s annual Evening With Industry event was held. This annual event welcomes Sacramento State Construction Management students, SCMEF Board Members, professors, and staff members to construction sites around Sacramento. This year’s event welcomed more than 50 participants to two project sites.
The first site was Clark Construction’s project at the new Sacramento Courthouse, and hosted by SCMEF Board Member Forest Podva. Attendees got to go for an elevator ride to the top of the building to review the newly installed HVAC system, and get a panoramic view of the city’s skyline. They also got to review Clark’s QC practices in what will eventually become a court room.
Attendees also got to visit the Hensel Phelps’ Richards Boulevard Office Complex, hosted by SCMEF Board Member Jeff Wellenstein. Attendees got to tour all 4 building complexes to see the different stages of progress, as well as a mock-up of a final room.
After the tours, Hensel Phelps hosted a BBQ dinner on their custom mobile BBQ and smoker. Attendees were treated to ribs, tri tip, chicken, sausage, pasta, cornbread, and refreshments.
Special thank you to everyone from Clark and Hensel Phelps that shared their time and escorted us around their projects, and a huge thank you to everyone from Hensel Phelps that helped cook an amazing dinner!
